Penstemon x gloxinioides - Violet Kissed
Aptly named and wonderfully flirtatious, Penstemon āViolet Kissedā produces large tubular flowers with vivid violet-purple ālipsā and pale white throats. The 1.5" blooms erupt in abundance from fuzzy, dark green evergreen foliage, creating a long-blooming shrublet with color, texture, and excellent pollinator appeal.
Also known as a border penstemon, Penstemon x gloxinioides āViolet Kissedā grows about 2' tall and 15" wide, making it useful in rock gardens, dry borders, pollinator plantings, containers, and xeriscape-style beds. From summer until the first heavy frost, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds happily line up for the nectar-rich flowers.
Plant Penstemon āViolet Kissedā in full sun with very well-drained soil. A little gravel and organic compost mixed into the soil will help keep roots happy, but avoid overwatering. Cut back stems in March for a tidier plant, and remove spent flowering stems in summer to keep the show going. Explore more habitat-friendly favorites in our California Native Perennials collection.
